What Equipment Do I Need to Install Pavers?

Pavers are a base project with a pretty top. You excavate deeper than a slab of the same finished height, compact like you mean it, then plate the stones themselves. A WP1550-class plate is on this job twice: once on the gravel, once with more care on the pavers. The mini and CTL are for the dirt, not for “tapping in” a pattern.

Typical pairing

Excavate with the mini, place base with the CTL, compact with the plate (and roller on big drives), lay stone, plate again. Do not skip the second plate pass.

Depth surprises people

Base plus bedding plus paver thickness is a real hole. An E35 keeps the edges square against a house. Hand digging a driveway-sized paver bed is how the crew quits.

Density, then sand, then stone

Compact the base in lifts. Bedding sand is not a place to hide a bad grade. After the pavers are down, plate them — many crews want a protective pad. We rent the plate; you bring the pad if you need it.

Driveway pavers vs patio

Driveways want more base and a roller in the field. Patios can often live on a plate. Edge restraint still matters or the first tire shove moves the whole picture.
