What Equipment Do I Need to Remove a Tree?

What a mini excavator can pull vs when you need a tree service — stumps, logs, and boom lifts for sectioning in Utah yards.

If it is a tree you would climb, hire a tree service. If it is already on the ground, an E35 with a thumb and a dump trailer will process it. A boom lift can put a climber into a canopy we are not qualified to drop for you. We do not rent chippers or grinders as listed classes. Honesty first: a mini is not a felling plan next to a house.

Felling vs processing

Felling near structures is certified work. Processing logs and pulling a stump the mini can win is rental work. Do not mix them because the day rate looked cheaper than a tree crew.

Stumps

Small stumps: thumb and patience. Large stumps: tree service grind. A skid-steer breaker is not a stump grinder and will make you famous on the street.

Debris

Green waste is bulky, not always heavy. A 7×14 dump still fills with branches in two scoops of air. Cut to length. HOAs care about the mess you leave on the curb.

FAQ

Can I push a tree over with a mini excavator?

Please do not. Especially in a subdivision. The machine can, the lawsuit will.

Do you rent stump grinders?

Not as a listed class. Ask. Pulling small stumps with a thumb is the common rental. Grinding is usually the tree crew.

Cottonwoods and Siberian elms in Utah yards?

Big, brittle, and often over the power line. That is a service call, not a Saturday mini. Cleanup we can help with — (801) 880-8800.

Need a quote on the right class?

Call or text — we'll match height, width, and capacity to the job instead of renting you a bigger machine than you need.
