What Equipment Do I Need for Tree Trimming?

Trimming is a people-in-the-canopy problem. An articulating boom gets you there. A towable T350/T500 is for a few cuts if you can hitch and set outriggers on firm ground. All-day production in a park or along a street wants self-propelled 45–63 ft. A telehandler with a person on the forks is not a method. Removal is a different page.

Typical pairing

Residential: 45–46 ft articulating, or a towable if the work is three cuts and you can hitch. Add a dump trailer if nobody is chipping. Do not add a telehandler unless you are also removing a large log from the yard.

Up and over, not straight up

Articulating beats telescopic for working around the trunk. Scissors do not belong in a canopy. Electric Z-30 class is for tight, occupied lots that do not want diesel next to a patio.

Ground and bark

Outriggers on wet lawns sink. Protect roots and turf. Wasatch wind shuts aerials down — that is not a challenge, it is a shutdown.

What we are not

We are not a tree service. No chippers as a listed class, no climbing gear, no traffic control package. Qualified people in our boom is the rental.

FAQ

Can I trim from a scissor lift?

Only if the work is directly above a firm, level surface and the canopy happens to agree. That is rare. Rent the boom.

Power lines in the tree?

That is the utility, not us. Do not boom into conductors. We will not talk you into it.

Winter?
