What Equipment Do I Need to Pour Curb and Gutter?

We do not rent slipform curb machines. What we can outfit is the cut, the base, the compaction, and the haul-off for a residential or small-commercial curb run that will be formed by hand or by a specialist who brings their own paver. If you need a stringline paver, hire that contractor. If you need the dirt right, keep reading.

Typical pairing

Mini + plate (or trench roller) + dump trailer for the dirt week. The slipform — if there is one — is not us. After the pour, CTL for behind-curb backfill.

The trench is a mini job

Curb and gutter is a shaped excavation along an alignment. E35 or 305.5 depending on length and soil. A loader bucket makes a mess of a grade that has to hold a 6-inch reveal.

Base and density

Plates fit the slot. Trench rollers fit if the inspector wants density in a utility-like trench. Ride-on rollers belong on the adjacent pavement, not in the gutter pan.

Who pours

Hand-formed residential curb is a crew and ready-mix. Production curb is a slipform sub. We will still take your spoils and compact your base either way.
