Genie vs JLG Scissor Lifts: 19 ft and 40 ft Classes Compared

How Genie and JLG electric scissors compare in the classes we actually rent — 19 ft slab and 40 ft 4069LE-style machines — and why height and width still come first.

JLG vs Genie is a real search, and both brands sit in our scissor lineup — especially 19 ft (JLG 1930/1932 vs Genie GS-1930/1932) and 40 ft electric (JLG 4069LE class). What does not sit in the yard is a fantasy about one brand being “safer.” Spec the class. Then if your operators live on JLG controls, say so.

Quick comparison

Figures below are typical ranges for this equipment class — not a spec sheet for one serial-numbered unit. Used rental inventory rotates; we confirm height, capacity, width, and weight on your quote.

19 ft class is interchangeable for most TI work

Doorway width, non-marking tires, and ~25 ft working height are the job. A JLG 1932R and a Genie GS-1932 will both hang lights in a Sandy warehouse. Differences show up in joystick feel and pothole-protection behavior — not in whether the machine can do the work.

40 ft electric is where JLG often shows up

The 4069LE class is a wide, heavy, indoor-capable 40 ft scissor. Genie 40 ft slab machines are less common in our rental mix than Skyjack SJ4740 and JLG 4069LE. If you asked for “a Genie 40,” you may get a better-fitting JLG or Skyjack in the same height class. That is a win, not a bait-and-switch.

Parts and operator comfort

National GCs sometimes standardize on JLG for mixed boom/scissor fleets. Local crews in Utah County are mixed. We care that the person in the platform has used a scissor before, not that the decal matches last Tuesday.

Who should rent which

FAQ

Is JLG better than Genie?

Not as a rental rule. Fit the height, width, and indoor/outdoor package. Brand is a preference, not a performance class.

Do you rent JLG booms too?

Our JLG boom mix is heavier on towable T350/T500 than on 600S-class sticks. For self-propelled booms you will more often see Genie and Skyjack. Ask what is in the yard.

Will I get the same capacity?

Capacities vary by model even inside a height class. We confirm the placard capacity when two people plus material is the plan.

Need a quote on the right class?

Call or text — we'll match height, width, and capacity to the job instead of renting you a bigger machine than you need.
