Generator rental fails in two directions: a too-small machine that trips when the welder hits, and a too-big towable that burns diesel all weekend for a battery charger. Add running watts, then add starting watts for the largest motor, then add a margin. Do not add the nameplate of every tool as if they all start at once unless they will.

Running watts vs starting watts
Saws, compressors, and HVAC blowers pull a spike when they start. A list of 4,000 running watts can still want 8,000+ of surge. Inverters and some towables handle surge differently. If you only give us “I have some tools,” we will guess high. If you give us the welder’s output and the saws, we will size it.
What a G70-class towable is for
A Wacker Neuson G70 class mobile generator (tens of kW / ~79 kVA class) is for real temporary power: a small site office plus tools, events, or a building that lost utility. It is not the machine for a trim carpenter with two miter saws. Undersizing a G70 onto a house remodel is how you pay for a fuel tank you did not need.
Fuel, placement, and neighbors
Towables need a level pad, exhaust direction, and a CO plan if anyone is in a tent or a garage. Utah winter means batteries and diesel gel — tell us if this sits unattended at night. We would rather discuss a light tower plus a smaller generator than one giant plant that nobody can sleep next to.
How to order
List the three hungriest loads and whether they run together. Call (801) 880-8800. If you need lights too, say so — that is often a light tower, not more generator.
FAQ
Can I run a whole house on a G70?
Sometimes, with a transfer plan and a load list. That is an electrician conversation, not a “plug it into the dryer outlet” conversation.
Do you rent small inverter generators?
Our listed rental class is job-site / towable. Call for what is actually in the yard this week rather than assuming a big-box inverter.
Will it power a 240 V welder?
If the generator’s kW, receptacles, and the welder’s input match. Send the welder model. Guessing from “220 welder” is how we undersize.
